In the early years of TV, all terrestrial television signals were analogue up until now. The age of digital TV has dawned and the analogue signal is being replaced by a faster, cleaner, digital signal. All this is gradually happening now and has been branded the “Digital Switchover”. Its set to complete by the year 2012 and the old analogue signal will be turned of so your TV will no longer pick up any reception if you haven’t made the correct preparations.
If you want to be able to receive digital TV also known as “Digital Freeview” you will need to make sure you have a digital set-top box or a Television that can receive the digital channels. You will also need to make sure your TV Aerial is up to the job of receiving the digital TV signal and can do this by hiring a TV aerial installation company.
When you have digital Freeview installed you will be able to receive around 40 channels depending on your region and as in the name “Freeview” it is free to view so there are no contracts or other fees to worry about. Another good thing about Freeview is its new high definition service labelled “Freeview HD” which enables you to see your favourite shows in the glory of HD.
My experiences of digital TV in Birmingham and Solihull have so far been good. I receive 40+ channels with crystal clear reception and my TV is also rigged up to watch HD channels too! I hired a local company who provided my home with a TV aerial installation in Solihull. They also installed my Freeview box and setup the TV for me, as I am kind of lacking in that department. The company is called Concept Digital, they were recommended to me by a work colleague who had a TV aerial installation in Birmingham. The service was professional and the engineer was friendly and helpful, they got me up and running very quickly with a minimum of mess.
Unfortunately, the only way to get around having a digital TV installation is to have satellite television fitted which would either be continental channels or by having Freesat or one of the Sky TV subscription services but that’s another story altogether.
